Belt Progress

posted by Matt Pierce on February 23, 2011

Hey everyone, I wanted to check in on the belt project and let everyone know when you'll be receiving your product. I had hoped to have them all finished over the President's Day holiday, but on Monday I clamped down on my hole puncher and no kidding – it exploded.

Earlier in the weekend, I'd bent the frame with my BRUTAL HAND STRENGTH. It had gotten weary from punching through the insanely heavy leather, and on Monday, it took it's final punch – the top housing bent apart and hole-punch bits flew everywhere. After the leather store opened on Tuesday, I got some REAL punches and am now poised to finish up. I'm sorry it's taken so long! I'll document the process, and probably bitch about it a little on my next post after they deliver.

So, with new punches and final bits of hardware, I'm confident that all belts will be done this weekend and shipping on Monday. Thanks for hanging in there with me, and I'm anxious to get them to you!

Just found your blog and I’m loving it. I love the manly projects, your aesthetic and all that great furniture. As someone who redid a 6’ long, solid oak mantle I got on Craig’s List for $60, I can totally relate to these projects. Keep it up!

I read your tweet regarding this. From what I can see, the belts look great. Hope the experience hasn’t soured you on starting up another one of these projects. Eagerly awaiting news on that.

Yessss! Finally, I won’t have to use this piece of twine I found to hold up my pants.

This is amazing. I can’t wait! ! I hope you weren’t injured by hole puncher shrapnel.

I get most of my supplies and tools from Oregon Leather Co. Good luck with your project!

Where do you get you leather and leather tools? i just got a vintage belt buckle and would love to try to fashion my own leather belt for it. Thanks

Thanks Jessica, and good find! I definitely approve.

Thanks, I’m glad you’re giving it a go. My stamps – I started with polymer dies, but am not using magnesium ones… look up die engravers and you might find someone local to make them for you.

You’ve definitely inspired me. I’ve just recently finished a short and long axe head covers, and a Pulaski cover. I truly appreciate the apparent simplicty of your projects. Where did you get your letter and symbol stamps? I can’t seem to find any like the ones you use.

Rob, these were for a previous project. Sorry to say I’m not selling belts at this moment.
